Meet the Team #1: Jonny Luke

As Senior Youth Worker, Jonny Luke leads Dreamscheme's youth programme for the Braniel area. Here's what you need to know about "Juke"!

Q. How long have you been part of Dreamscheme, and why did you want to get involved in youth work?

I have been involved with Dreamscheme for nearly a year now and I'm loving it! Personally I had two or three great youth workers growing up that made a big difference in my life, so I got involved in youth work myself so that others might benefit from my influence, using whatever skill set I had. I guess if it came down to it I love having fun and being active and want young people to experience that too, while seeing a positive impact in their lives… so why not get paid for it!

Q. What are you looking forward to most this year at Dreamscheme?

There are a lot of things I am looking forward to! I am looking forward to Dreamscheme growing, having their own centre in Four Winds, as well as seeing Braniel’s new refurbished community centre. There are some great projects coming up and I’m excited to be leading those for our young people, and lastly of course I’m excited for the summer trips and banter!

Q. What is your favourite meal?

BBQ Chicken Pizza with Jalapenos, and in cheesy nachos too and you have a winner!

Q. What is one of the things you would put on your “bucket list”?

There are a few things! Unrealistic or not - you got to dream! To name a few: travel across America, play a massive 24 hour game of paintball in a castle/forest setting, buy out an entire cinema to watch every Star Wars back to back, hang out with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, drop a mix-tape called ‘Space Jalapenos’ and….go to space!

Q. Who is your favourite superhero and why?

Going by comic superhero’s I would have to say Wolverine. He got me into X-Men when I was a kid, even before the films came out. Just a great, messed up character.

Q. Who do you admire the most?

That’s a tough one. To be honest there are a few, but let’s go for Tolkien. He re-defined literature, created a whole new world with his ‘Lord of the Rings’, which personally got me interested in literature in school which I went on to follow at university.

Q. What is your favourite movie quote?

“Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose” – Coach Taylor, Friday Night Lights

“I look good, I mean really good…Hey everyone come and see how good I look!” – Ron Burgundy – Anchorman

Keep your eyes peeled for our next 'Meet the Team' feature!
